Scavi (excavations)

Scavi means excavations, the word Italian sites use for both ongoing digs and excavated areas open to visitors. In Rome it appears on signs from the Forum to the necropolis under St Peter's.

Example

An area marked scavi in corso is a working dig and may be fenced off even inside a ticketed site, so the sign is not an invitation.
