Free last Sunday at the Vatican Museums
The last Sunday of every month, unless it coincides with Easter or 29 June
Approximate window. The organisers publish the exact days a few months ahead.
What it is
The Vatican Museums open free of charge on the last Sunday of the month, with a shorter opening window than on a paid day. The official hours page lists the exceptions.
What to expect
Demand is far higher than on a weekday and the halls close earlier. The Sistine Chapel is included, but the visit is shorter and the crowd larger than any paid slot.
Getting there
Arrive well before opening or accept that a paid weekday ticket buys a calmer Sistine Chapel. Confirm the month's exception on the official hours page before travelling.
